Award 2018: Hans Barkowski Prize for the promotion of academic work, projects and initiatives in the context of multilingualism, migration and intercultural encounter
The association JenDaF e.V. announces the Hans Barkowski Award in 2018. It is awarded annually and is aimed at students, academics and volunteers who are involved in academic publications, student theses, projects or initiatives in the context of multilingualism, migration, intercultural encounter or German as a second language. Scientific contributions should have been published in the past two years.
The award's namesake, Hans Barkowski, was for many years the chair and director of the Institute for Foreign German Studies/German as a Foreign and Second Language at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. As one of the pioneers in the research fields of German as a Second Language and Intercultural Learning and Teaching, he not only championed academic causes, but also initiated many civic actions aimed at supporting the integration of migrants.
