Professional integration in a post-migrant society
The integration of people of different origins, religions, ages and genders - in other words, of all affiliations - is one of the greatest tasks in our society. Germany has long been a country of immigration. These potentials and advantages must be used and promoted. From 3 to 7 July 2017, researchers from 18 different countries will intensively deal with the topic of integration and work during the international Summer School "Vocational Integration in Post-Migrant Society" at TU Dresden. The connection between work and integration in a post-migrant society is of enormous importance, because it is here that social participation is made possible. In view of the demographic development and the ever-increasing shortage of skilled workers, the development of the labour market can also be improved.
The aim of the Summer School 2017 is to discuss current fields, objects and problems in this subject area from different academic perspectives. The researchers will analyse theories relevant to the topic, discuss concepts and define terms from the perspective of educational science (vocational education and social pedagogy), sociology, economics, linguistics and cultural studies. Furthermore, they debate and test methods and techniques of empirical research on labour market integration, work culture and work-related integration processes.
In addition to the workshops, in which the participants deal intensively with the topic area and work together on possible solutions, scientific impulses are given in public lectures. The opening lecture will be given by Prof. Dr. Sandra Bohlinger (TU Dresden) on 3 July at 4:00 pm in the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden. She will talk about vocational training and labour market integration in a post-migrant society. On the following days, speakers will talk about the economic effects of migration and integration, explore what integration means for our health and care system and discuss language as the key to integration. The final lecture will be given by Ruta Yemane (WZB / Berlin) on 7 July at 5:30 pm. She will talk about ethical discrimination in the German labour market. She will present a study in which applications for 8,000 vacancies in eight professions throughout Germany were examined.
The International Summer School "Vocational Integration in Post-Migrant Society" is organised by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Education and the Centre for Integration Studies. It takes place in cooperation with the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden and is financed by the Institutional Strategy of the TU Dresden.
