Call for Papers: Brauner Osten, weiße Westen. Ethnografische Studien zur Hypervisibilität des Ostens in Debatten um das Rechte
Right-wing populism, neo-nationalism, right-wing extremism and radicalism, modernised and new right - the list of descriptive analytical categories could be continued and yet it would remain insufficient to capture current social processes: While right-wing terror kills continuously, the right-wing is becoming increasingly acceptable, right-wing politicians sit in parliaments, we encounter right-wing convictions in the media or in our own neighbourhood, and thus challenge social reactions and ways of dealing with them. In a volume of the Berliner Blätter, whose conception involves not only Urmila Goel and Salome Boßmeyer but also ZfI staff member Luise Böhm, space is to be given to ethnographic studies that move in this field spanned by the right and the East. Ethnographic methods in particular make it possible to focus on the everydayness of dealing with silent norms of belonging and to work out how they are produced and how they work. Ethnographic studies thus make a necessary contribution to an interventional understanding of the strengthening of the right. Proposals for papers can be submitted until 1 October 2021. Further information on submission here.
