Heritage - A term that is difficult to escape in Dresden
It is difficult to escape the concept of heritage in Dresden: as an old cultural and residential city, almost every building, every date and every district of the city carry a considerable weight of "heritage", which is sometimes fought over very emotionally. Reason enough for our cooperation partner HELLERau - Europäisches Zentrum der Künste to take a closer look at this term and its use in the contemporary performing arts: From 26 April to 05 May, the Festspielhaus is hosting Erbstücke. Festival zu Erbe und Tradition in der zeitgenössischen Kunst (more information on the festival and tickets here). The ZfI also addresses discourses on memory and particularly recommends the following events as part of the festival:
- Lecture Performance // 27 April 2019, 9:30 pm
Oliver Zahn/Julian Warner/HAUPTAKTION (DE):
Situation mit Doppelgänger
"Situation mit Doppelgänger", addresses the appropriation of "black" and other minority dance forms in 19th century pop culture and minstrel shows. -
Dance // 01 May 2019, 6:00 pm and 02 May 2019, 8:00 pm
Saša Asentić & Collaborators (DE/RS):
Dis_Sylphide
Using three classics of modern dance - Mary Wigman's "Hexentanz", Pina Bausch's "Kontakthof" and Xavier Le Roy's "Self Unfinished" - choreographer Asentić and his mixed team of performers with and without so-called "intellectual disabilities" uncover the roots of contemporary dance work and the aesthetic regime of dance history.
In the run-up to the festival, the topics of migration and flight will be addressed in two events:
- Performance // 11 April 2019, 8:00 pm and 13/14 April 2019, 7:00 pm
theatrale subversion (DE):
Der flüchtige Körper Bodies on boats. Bodies climbing over fences. Bodies that cross borders. Flight is more than the movement between place of origin and place of refuge. Further information here. - Music/Theater // 12/13 April 2019, 8:30 pm
CapriConnection (DE):
Hotel der Immigranten "Refugees want to come here" is the current European perception. CapriConnection travelled to Argentina to take a different perspective. Further information here.
