A crisis has had an uneven impact on European society. It has spread from the financial crash in 2007 to the real economy and fiscal constraints, leading to divisions in civil society, political instability and violence. These changes challenge traditional sociological theory. How should differences in levels of violence be measured and theorised? How should the gender dimension be integrated into social theory?
