A crisis has been cascading unevenly through european society. It has cascaded from the financial crash in 2007 to the real economy, to fiscal pressures generating divisions in civil society, political instability and violence. These changes challenge traditional sociological theory. How should variations in the rate of violence be measured and theorised? How should its gender dimensions be integrated in social theory?
