Gerhard Richter: Painting by Other Means
Prof. Ir.-Arch. Guy Châtel (Ghent University)
Dr. Aline Guillermet (University of Cambridge)
Prof. Dr. Kerstin Schankweiler (TU Dresden)
Gerhard Richters work has often been acknowledged for its use of multiple media. Though his renown is based on his painting, he is known to have engaged in photography, architecture, performance, sculpture, tapestry and digital art.
In this one-day symposium, three international guests will present and discuss Richters work regarding its use of languages and forms of other artistic media to challenge the limits of painting. Looking through the lenses of cinema and further media, speakers will offer new insights not only into Richters paintings but also into the possibilities and limitations of painting in an era of ever-changing demands towards painting.
