Online lecture "Holzschnittartig? Die bildlichen Darstellungen von Juden und Jüdinnen im frühen Buchdruck"
On 22.05.2025 at 6 pm, Simone Hallstein, who is doing her doctorate at the University of Cologne on the topic of ‘Hostility towards Jews and media change in the late Middle Ages’, will speak on the subject of 'Woodcut-like? The pictorial representations of Jews in early book printing'. This lecture is part of the event ‘KUG im Zoom’.
The working group 'Körper und Geistlichkeit im Mittelalter (KuG). Virtue, Power and Representation' is dedicated to a central aspect of medieval society that has received little attention to date: the body practices and concepts of the clergy and their medial communication. These represent a factor for the status identity and social positioning of the clergy that should not be underestimated. The working group focuses on three dimensions:
- The body as an expression of virtue,
- the body as a means of attaining power and
- the body as an instrument for representing status.
The aim is a systematic and comparative analysis of spiritual body practices and concepts. The biannual event ‘KuG im Zoom’ as well as workshops and conferences offer a forum for interdisciplinary exchange.
