Science communication is no longer just a nice bonus, it is often required of research projects to receive funding. But how can discourse take place beyond the scientific community with members of the public? Who are “the public” anyway and what is the best way to speak comprehensibly to this mystery group? Do we all have to become science slam poets or YouTubers? In his introduction to science communication, enthusiastic researcher and communicator Dr. Lorenz Adlung, Independent Junior Group Leader at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, offers an entertaining insight into how science can be communicated understandably, what options are available for doing so, and what pitfalls should be avoided.
