The team at the Department of Chemical Engineering mourns the loss of former colleague Dr. Harald Rümmler
Dr. Harald Rümmler passed away on June 23, 2025 at the age of 91. Harald Rümmler was a lecturer and laboratory manager in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Education, formerly the Department of Technical Chemistry. As one of the first employees, he played a key role in shaping this Department, which trained teachers for both the general subject of chemistry and vocational training in chemical engineering.
After graduating from high school, Harald Rümmler studied in this very Department at the TU Dresden from 1955 and graduated with a degree in 1960. In 1968, he successfully completed his doctorate under Prof. Schwabe on the basis of his dissertation "Analysis of the teaching of electrochemistry on electrochemical analysis methods for the training of chemical workers". He then took on the academic position of lecturer at the Vocational Department and developed the teaching area "Chemical-Technical School Experiments", which he was responsible for until his departure from TU Dresden in 1993.
Generations of students came to know and appreciate him in this role. Dr. Rümmler, called "Rümmi" by everyone, was a unique person for us, who prepared students for teaching in his very special way, with a lot of humor, temperament, joie de vivre and humanity. His former students will always remember the lectures and laboratory practicals as well as his supervision of the school practicals as formative and full of anecdotes.
And we, the former colleagues, will also remember and appreciate Harald Rümmler and his life's work at TU Dresden very fondly, but will also continue to do so. We were not only colleagues, but also friends who were able to celebrate his big anniversary with him last year. We will miss him.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and all his loved ones.
On behalf of the entire Chemical Engineering Department team
