STEM education in the vocational teaching profession
Teachers in the professional field of nutrition and household must have a basic knowledge of biology, chemistry and physics as well as skills in scientific knowledge acquisition in order to be able to didactically prepare scientific phenomena relevant to the profession. The use of experiments as teaching-learning arrangements is highly suitable for this. However, the current literature often describes deficits in scientific propaedeutic work and experimental teaching among teachers in everyday school life. For this reason, the Chair of Nutrition and Home Economics / BBS is establishing a new module to promote experimental skills with regard to the methodological and didactic design of teaching-learning experiments in learning field-structured lessons. The teaching concept aims to enable prospective teachers to design science-based lessons, but also to strengthen the understanding of science education in teacher training for vocational schools.
Congratulations to Hanan Daka, the food chemist responsible for the project.
