For the "Teacher Training - Vocational Schools" in the vocational Department of Health and Nursing, a general or relevant (attendance of a vocational grammar school for health and social services) subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification is required.
Admission to the degree program is restricted. The numerus clausus is recalculated at the beginning of each semester.
The course is designed as a full-time course. Part-time study is strongly discouraged due to the time required (internships, preparation and follow-up of courses).
The Bachelor's program has already ended and the Master's program will end in 2017. From 2017/18, only the state examination can be obtained.
We recommend the following general education subjects for the second subject:
Ethics, German, English, Social Studies/Legal Education/Economics, Protestant and Catholic Religion
It is possible. Please contact the respective academic advisor for more information.
The times and rooms of the course vary each semester. They combine the study planning with the dates of the second subject and the educational sciences.
In the 5th semester, you decide on a specialization: Health or Nursing. It is currently not possible to study both specializations. The health specialization prepares you for teaching in a dual-regulated healthcare profession. The nursing specialization, on the other hand, prepares you for a later teaching career in the nursing professions.
You can choose between the two specializations of health or nursing.
Therapy science is not currently established at TU Dresden.
Teaching at vocational schools, other employment opportunities include academic work (or doctorate), work in associations, organizations, institutions (e.g. teachers' associations, etc.), subject-related lectureships and subject-related professional fields. (Staff positions in internal further education and training, etc.)
In principle, only content that has been completed at a university or college can be recognized. Talk to the student advisory service.
Due to the time available and the full-time nature of the course, it is recommended that you complete the apprenticeship first.
A semester abroad is recommended from the 3rd semester at the earliest.
You can find more information about the Erasmus program on the following page: http://tu-dresden.de/internationales/stud_abroad/scholar_sponsorships/erasmusplus
After completing a semester abroad, you can have completed courses recognized by the Student Advisory Service. This applies to courses that can be recognized as equivalent in the study regulations.
Students without vocational training complete a 12-month work placement in healthcare facilities.
It is recommended
1) to complete the internship before starting your studies (e.g. through a voluntary social year) in order to get to know the professional field.
2) Use the time between graduating from high school and studying for an orientation internship.
It is not advisable to complete the work placement in full during the course of study, as knowledge of professional activities is required in the vocational didactics seminars from the 2nd semester onwards.
The overriding aim of the work placement is to gain knowledge of and empathy with the professional world of the trainees and pupils, whom the students will encounter as teachers in their later professional life. This prepares them for later lessons in which professional situations (and not subject-specific systems) serve as the starting point for learning.
During the internship, you will write an internship report in the form of a learning diary. You can find information on how to do this here.
Up to three months can be credited if you have completed a vocational grammar school for health and social work. Proof of relevant work or completed internship semesters at universities of applied sciences are further crediting options. Mr. Jonas Hänel <> (Room: 160 WEB) is responsible for the recognition of completed internships.
The internship is not required if you can prove that you have completed vocational training in a healthcare profession. You can find more detailed information in the "Guidelines for the professional internship for the Department of Health and Nursing in the degree program Teacher Training - Vocational Schools."
It is possible to complete a traineeship in any federal state. Information on the length of the traineeship can be obtained from the respective subject seminar.
