Courses for students who have another major subject

NEW: Matriculation from winter semester 23/24

Subject students take the following modules at the Chair of Primary Education / Mathematical Education in the planned winter or summer semester:

The modules are made up of different forms of teaching (e.g. lectures, seminars etc.). A certain amount of time for self-study is always included.

EW-SEGS-M-01: Fundamentals of mathematics for elementary school

• 2 SWS lecture
• 2 SWS accompanying seminar
• 2 SWS tutorial

The module concludes with a written examination.

EW-SEGS-M-02: Introduction to the didactics of mathematics for elementary school

• 2 SWS Lecture
• 2 SWS accompanying seminar

The module concludes with a written exam .

EW-SEGS-M-03: Didactics of arithmetic and geometry for elementary school

• 4 SWS seminar (1 key idea seminar each on "Numbers and Operations" and "Space and Shape")

The module concludes with a complex performance

EW-SEGS-M-04: Consolidation of selected focal points of the didactics of mathematics

• 6 SWS seminar (combination of research seminar and seminar on key ideas)

The module concludes with a complex performance .

Notes on enrolment

You can choose between different options:

• 1 key idea seminar each in the area of "Quantities and Measurement" and "Data, Frequency and Probability" and 1 one-semester research seminar
• either 1 key idea seminar in the area of "Quantities and Measurement" or "Data, Frequency and Probability" and 1 two-semester research seminar

EW-SEGS-D-MA-1: Fundamentals of mathematics for elementary school

• 2 SWS lecture
• 2 SWS accompanying seminar

The module concludes with a written examination.

EW-SEGS-D-MA-2: Fundamentals of the didactics of mathematics

• 2 SWS Lecture
• 2 SWS accompanying seminar

The module concludes with a written exam .

EW-SEGS-D-MA-3: Selected problems of mathematics teaching

• 4 SWS guiding ideas seminars (over 2 semesters, i.e. one guiding ideas seminar in the winter semester and one in the summer semester)

The module concludes with an oral examination and a presentation .

Notes on enrolment

• The module consists of two different key ideas seminars, corresponding to the selected module number.
• Please select only one module number: Either EW-SEGS-D-MA-3a (focus on arithmetic and geometry) or EW-SEGS-D-MA-3b (focus on arithmetic and stochastics) or EW-SEGS-D-MA-3c (focus on geometry and stochastics).

EW-SEGS-D-MA-4: Research-based specialization in mathematics

• 2 SWS key ideas seminar
• 2 SWS research seminar

The module concludes with a presentation and a seminar paper . If you give the presentation in the guiding ideas seminar, the seminar paper must be written in the research seminar (and vice versa).

Notes on enrolment

• Please select only one module number: Either EW-SEGS-D-MA-4a (focus on arithmetic) or EW-SEGS-D-MA-4b (focus on quantities).
• You may not choose two research seminars! You must choose a key idea seminar and a research seminar with the same module number.
  • If you have chosen MA-4a, then attend the key idea seminar in arithmetic accordingly.
  • If you have chosen MA-4b, then attend the key idea seminar in quantities accordingly.
  • If you have already chosen the key ideas seminar in arithmetic as part of the module EW-SEGS-D-MA-3, you must attend the key ideas seminar in quantities.
• The research seminars we offer can be credited for both MA-4a and MA-4b.
