The history of the Institute
Excerpt from the brochure "10 years of university social pedagogy in Dresden 1992 - 2002".
The Diplom degree program in Social Education/Social Work was approved in 1991, and the Institute was established as part of the new Faculty of Education at Technische Universität Dresden in 1992. The establishment had been preceded by an experimental phase, still on the premises of the former College of Education, in which the teaching activities were started with about 150 first students. These first students came from a variety of groups: Graduates and students of the College of Education with a focus on teacher and political youth education, students of cultural studies, graduates from other educational fields and the Diakonie welfare organization, as well as high school graduates. Everyone wanted this new degree program and helped through their commitment [...] that this Diplom program could be established.
