About the history of the Institute

The diploma course in Social Pedagogy/Social Work was approved in 1991 and the Institute was founded in 1992 as part of the new Faculty of Education at the Technical University. This was preceded by an experimental phase, still on the premises of the former College of Education, in which teaching commenced with the first 150 or so students. These first students were recruited from various groups: Graduates and students from the College of Education focusing on teacher and pioneer leader training, students of cultural studies, graduates from other educational fields and diaconia, as well as high school graduates. They all wanted this new course of study and their commitment [...] helped to establish this diploma course.
