Disruption on the Internet: More Sovereignty against Deceptive Technologies (DESIGNATE)

Designate: The project
When interacting with digital user interfaces on the Internet, decision architectures are increasingly used that run counter to the actual interests of the users. These are so-called dark patterns. Through the collaboration of computer science, psychology and legal science, the following questions will be investigated within the project: (i) To what extent is it possible to influence behavior through selected dark patterns? (ii) Design and effectiveness analysis of software-based countermeasures. (iii) Investigation of the legal admissibility of dark patterns and the need for additional legal regulation.
