Inclusion
Inclusion is a foreign word and comes from Latin. Everyone belongs - no one is excluded. Everyone who wants to can be part of it.
There is no distinction or division into groups that do not do justice to the diversity of humankind. There is no "normal" and "not normal", but openness to diversity.
On the way to inclusion, you have to try out different things and check again and again that no one is forgotten or excluded.
For inclusion to succeed, there requires equal opportunities for all, openness, acceptance, avoiding experiences of exclusion in all respects, and the appreciative recognition of differences.
People can participate as a matter of course from the very beginning without having a special "entrance ticket". They do not have to fit in somewhere, but shape their lives and their environment.
Inclusion is not about fitting in. Conditions are changed in such a way that all people can move within them without restrictions. Barriers that prevent participation are removed without disadvantaging other people.
Inclusion is a process that affects all people and that needs people for change. This also includes people who are not affected by excluding conditions.
This definition is based on a joint process of negotiation with all participants at the seminar "DIY Inclusion at the TU Dresden" on 6 November 2020 at the TU Dresden together with the QuaBIS project.
