Das Institut
The Institute of Media and Communication is located on the campus of the TU Dresden, across from the SLUB (Saxon State and University Library Dresden). Its offices sit high up with a wide view of the city. But in contrast, the IfK wants to be in the thick of things with its research: It provides our society with applied and relevant findings through many routes, not just keeping them in the ivory tower.

About the Institute
In both research and education, the Institute for Communication Sciences at the TU Dresden dedicates itself to the phenomena of media-produced public communication. Empirical and social scientific methods are applied in the research, which leads to verified and generalizable statements. Both in the range of research topics and in the education, it is oriented towards socially relevant and practically oriented issues in media communication.
Research results and teaching content serve to realize central communicational, political, and ethical values. Most important is the communicative self-determination of the citizens through objective, impartial, and competent coverage by the media. The Institute for Communication Sciences offers its expertise in a certain way to regional organizations and companies. It processes its results in such a way that they impact the society as much as possible.
