Exhibition: “Refugium” (“refuge”)
What makes a safe(r) space and how fragile is safety? Can a space threaten itself and what does “safety” even mean?
From March 2, the exhibition “Refugium” will be on display at the Kunstverein Meißen. Works by nine artists whose positions conceptualise the multifaceted notion of space will be brought together – between painting, installation, sound, and video art, a spectrum of perspectives and interpretations of ‘space’ and environment opens up. The interplay of these different artworks and contents approaches the question of a safe space in particular.
The artists create their own spaces within their works, which either attempt to open up a safer space or draw attention to the absence of such. The reciprocal relationship that emerges between the positions connects the digital with the physical space, the intimate with the public, the battlefield with the shelter.
Everyone interested is cordially invited to gather individual experiences and impressions, to engage in conversation with each other, and to search for their own personal “Refugium” (“refuge”)!
AufTakt For the artistic “AufTakt” (‘pre-opening’), a sound performance by Antje Meichsner will take place in the Bias as a foretaste of the upcoming exhibition in Meißen. |
