Welcome: Dr. Hala Ghoname!
It is our great pleasure to introduce Dr. Hala Ghoname as a guest at the institute of art and music. Until the end of the year 2022, Hala Ghoname will work with focus on “Digital Visual Culture in the MENA Region” and cooperate with our DFG-funded research project “Image Protests on Social Media”.
Hala Ghoname is an expert in the field of Islamic art, especially Egyptian art history and visual politics of the 19th-21st centuries. In Dresden she will be working on a new research project entitled „Digitizing Eternal Yesterday – Recycling the Past on Social Media as Means for Image Activism in Post-Arab Spring Societies”. It focuses on a current image phenomenon in social media that has gained importance in the so-called "Post-Arab Spring Societies" in North Africa and the Middle East. Hala Ghoname examines how, in the context of state control and repression, historical imagery is used for online communication to debate current politics. She will also speak on this topic in the lecture series "Image Protests/ Bildproteste" organized by our research project on November 28, 2022 (via Zoom).
Hala Ghoname’s stay at the institute of art and music is supported by the „Gastprofessorinnen-Programm Sachsen zur Förderung von Frauen in der Wissenschaft und Forschung an sächsischen Hochschulen“.
