Art History

With its world-class museums and monuments, Dresden offers ideal study conditions. The degree programmes deal with the history of art from late antiquity to the present day and are closely linked to non-university art historical practice. This is achieved primarily through intensive co-operation with high-calibre cultural institutions in Dresden. In this way, students are introduced to museum work and research into the world-famous collections and monuments at the highest level.

Art Education

Everything here revolves around the training of future art teachers. The department supervises the art teaching degree programmes for primary schools, secondary schools and grammar schools. The practice-oriented degree programme is divided into three areas - art theory, art didactics and art practice - leaving plenty of room for individual specialisations and providing optimal preparation for the demands of everyday working life.

Musicology

Musicology at the TU Dresden stands for the combination of music-historical and cognitive perspectives, for the fruitful connection of music theory and empirical research and for the interdisciplinary cooperation of music, mathematics, computer science, linguistics and neuroscience.

THE INSTITUTE OF ART AND MUSIC

The Institute of Art and Music is part of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science at TU Dresden.

The Institute is divided into the professorships for Visual Culture in the Global Context, Christian Art of Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, Art History, Early Modern and Modern Art History, Theory of Artistic Design and Art Psychology as well as the Junior Professorship in Empirical Musicology.

Dangerous Border

With Davor Konjikušić, Tamara Kametani and the research agency Border Forensics, the exhibition juxtaposes three artistic positions that deal with images from Europe's border zones. Their works open up a new perspective on migration: Who is allowed or able to cross borders? How are borders constituted? And what functions do the images have?
