Chair of Biblical Theology

The central task of biblical studies is the interpretation of biblical texts, the exploration of their literary and historical contexts of origin, as well as of their reception, use, and significance to the present day.
In recent decades, the approaches of biblical studies have become increasingly differentiated. As text and literary studies, Biblical Theology embraces new approaches of other literary studies. As a historical science, Biblical Theology participates in the study of the ancient Orient and the Greco-Roman world of classical antiquity, and also makes available archaeological, inscribed and iconographic source material for social and religious history. As a theological science, Biblical Theology reflects in a critical hermeneutic process the manifold theological concepts represented in the Bible with their respective chances and limits, and places them in discussion with other disciplines. Biblical theology, which is not divided into Old Testament and New Testament exegesis, offers a special chance to reveal the historical lines of development and the connecting lines between the Old and the New Testament.
