The Image Crisis in the Reformation Period
A crisis of image occurring during the Protestant Reformation fundamentally and universally affected the structural history of signs, the scientific meaning of which must still be studied. This crisis is not only evident in the period’s iconoclasm, related political reforms, and theological debates, but also in the production of pictures, style development, and other structural changes.
The image crisis pertains to the fields of Theology, History and Literature as well as Philosophy, Visual Culture, and Art History.
