Prague
First-time visitors will be overwhelmed of the nearly unbelievable beauty of Prague. The University, founded in 1348 by Emperor Charles IV, is known as one of the oldest universities and law schools in Europe. Studying in Prague offers the unique opportunity to witness a legal system that is moving from historic Austrian and socialist rules to a democratic legal system as a new member state of the European Union. Students may stay in residence halls at the University of Prague.
Semester schedule:
The study period in Prague for our LL.M. students begins in mid-October and ends in February. Subsequently, students complete a mandatory internship in Prague of at least four weeks. It is possible to complete this internship under the supervision of the members of Prof. Kriz's team in various companies, law firms or public authorities in a kind of rotation system. In individual cases, there is also the possibility of a study-related internship by arrangement.
Courses:
The stay in Prague offers the opportunity to study at the renowned Institute of Copyright, Industrial Property and Competition Law. Our students attend the lecture on intellectual property law offered in English. In addition, another course from the offered courses on European Law has to be taken. In addition, numerous English lectures offer students the opportunity to get acquainted with the Czech legal system - which is particularly interesting due to its modern legislation enacted in the context of EU accession. Finally, the personal attention of the faculty members of Professor Jan Kriz, the leading developer of the new Czech copyright law, also rounds out the acquisition of specialized knowledge.
Exams:
Successful completion of the semester in Prague includes the writing of a comprehensive final paper (in English or, in exceptional cases, German) on a specialized topic in the field of intellectual property. The overall grade of the semester in Prague is composed of the results of the examinations of the two compulsory courses as well as the final thesis.
