Dresdner Kinderstudien
The Dresden Children’s Studies (Dresdner Kinderstudien) already represent a well-established practice. Inspired by a very active UNICEF children’s committee and in close collaboration with the City of Dresden from the very start, the first comprehensive review of the living situation of children and youth in Dresden from their own perspectives was published in 2000 under the leadership of Prof. Karl Lenz. Subsequent studies were conducted in 2005 and 2010.
Following a long hiatus, the fourth study was carried out in 2021 after being delayed for over a year as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic. As with the previous three studies, this round of surveying included pupils in the 3rd through 9th grades. For the first time, however, many more young people aged 16 to 21 were added to the data group, expanding the study to encompass both children and youths. The quantitative, standardized collection of data was also supplemented with biographical information, which was compiled based on qualitative guided interviews. The study was financed by the City of Dresden. It was prepared and designed in close collaboration with the city’s youth welfare planning.
Key findings from the current study were presented at a press conference on May 17, 2022.
