Elias Wittenstein is a research associate at the Center for International Studies / the Chair of International Politics at TU Dresden.
Previously, he worked as a research assistant at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and conducted research on sources of legitimacy of regional organizations in the Global South as part of a DFG project. For field research on the Arab League, the African Union and ASEAN, he spent several months in Cairo, Addis Ababa and Jakarta.
Elias Wittenstein holds a 2-subject M.A. in Political Science and Ethnology with a focus on International Relations from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and completed a semester abroad at Holy Spirit University Kaslik in Lebanon.
He earned a B.A. in Arabic Studies and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Leipzig and studied an Erasmus semester at Sciences Po Paris.
His research interests include European foreign, security and partnership policy. He also focuses on regional organizations and their legitimacy, as well as state and non-state actors in spaces of limited statehood, with a focus on the West Asia / North Africa (WANA) region.
