Two new research assistants in the research project FRAMENET at the Chair
Since June 2021, the Chair of International Politics has two new research assistants. Sofie Roehrig and Maria Weickardt Soares are working in the trinational research project 'Framenet'. We are very happy about this new addition and welcome them!
Sofie Roehrig has earned her BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences at University College Maastricht (UCM), completed a Bachelor's semester abroad at the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University (GW) in Washington, D.C., and graduated with an MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Since then, she worked in the field of International Development and International Public Policy with a focus on Conflict and Governance, as well as in the Tech sector. Her former clients include Chatham House, The Economist, Accenture, Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC), the former UK Department for International Development (DFID) and UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). For work and/or education, she has previously lived in London (UK), Brussels (Belgium), Washington, D.C. (US), Pune (India), Sapporo (Japan), and Yeosu (South Korea). Currently, she is an Ambassador Council Member at the International Crisis Group and volunteers on Oxfam’s research project ‘Agency in a Time of Covid’. At TU Dresden, Sofie is a Research Associate on the trinational project ‘Framenet’ where she researches International Political Discourses on International Migration. She is also going to write her PhD thesis at TU Dresden, investigating Political Discourses on the Conflict-Development Nexus, with a focus on Rebel Governance and Rebel-Civilian Relations. Maria Weickardt Soares is also a research associate and PhD Candidate at the Chair of International Politics and is working on current and historical discourses and networks in global health in the trinational project ‘Framenet’. Prior to joining TU Dresden, she has worked for the research group 'Global Humanitarian Medicine' at the Social Science Research Center Berlin, the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society, the University of Liverpool and the Goethe Institute Brazil. She holds an M.A. in Political Science from Freie Universität Berlin and a B.A. in Political Science as well as Media and Communication Studies from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU). During her studies, she spent a semester abroad in Hyderabad, India. She also lived in Brazil for two years, where she worked primarily as a tutor and academic lecturer for German, English, and Brazilian Portuguese. She is a member of the Global Health Hub Germany and is involved in public health policy in Brazil. Her research interests include international institutions, clashes of norms, health inequality discourses and theories, North-South disparities in global health, and critical, poststructuralist, and discourse analytic approaches to inter- and transnational politics.
