Strong Presence at EISA-PEC 2023 in Potsdam - in Exchange with Scholars from all over Europe
The team of the Chair of International Politics was well represented at the 16th Pan-European Conference on International Relations. At the largest European conference on International Studies, scholars from all over the world met in Potsdam from 5-9 September to present their current research and to exchange views on (new) theoretical approaches, methods and interests.
Together with her research colleague Prof. Dr. Jonathan Josefsson, Prof. Dr. Anna Holzscheiter chaired an entire section on "Youth in Global Politics: Governance, Representation, Transformations". Holzscheiter and Josefsson have been investigating the representation of young people in global politics for several years, including in a joint research project. For the first time, there was a separate section on this topic with various topic-specific panels:
On the first panel on "International institutions and the politics of youth representation", a joint introductory article on "The Politics of Child and Youth Representation in Global Governance: Confronting International Institutions" was presented, in which Dr. Pantzerhielm and Prof. Dr. Eva Lövbrand joined Prof. Dr. Josefsson and Prof. Dr. Holzscheiter. In addition, Holzscheiter shared her research on "Contested futures in global health and the spatial politics of youth representation".
The other panels of the section were on "Children and youth in peace and security studies" and "Global environmental governance and the representation of youth" as well as "Evolving forms and strategies of young people's representation in global politics". On latter, Laura Pantzerhielm and Felix Stadelmann presented the status of their work on "Representing Youth in Global Health: Narratives, Collocations and Absences in International Organizations' Discourse", which they are researching together with Niklas Kramer and Anna Holzscheiter.
In addition, members of the chair also presented their work on other panels at the conference:
Maria Weickardt Soares presented her research on "Governing data in times of institutional fragmentation - a discourse network analysis of contested transnational rule-making on health data sharing" on the panel "Health(y) Politics: How to Govern in Pandemic Times", which she is working on together with Anna Holzscheiter.
Sofie Röhrig presented her research on "NGOs' intersectional identity performances and feminist foreign policy norm contestations: A critical discourse analysis" at the Panel on "Identity Discourses in Foreign Policy".
Dr. Laura Pantzerhielm was part of the panel "The international and its limits: theories and concepts in International Political Sociology" and could present and discuss her current work on "Critical Mode of Inquiry: Power and Ontology in Global Politics". Pantzerhielm's joint research with Anam Soomro on "International Relations and Postcolonial Agency: Staying with the Trouble" was presented by Soomro on the panel "Globalising International Relations in Practice: Regions and Agency".
Overall, the conference was an excellent opportunity to gather new ideas into current and future research. Besides work, it was also the perfect moment to exchange ideas with new or familiar colleagues from Germany, Europe and the world. With so many topics, panels and presentations, there was more than enough to talk about and be inspired by.
