From the event description:
What is the current status of documenting and prosecuting war crimes in Ukraine, and which aspects of international law can also be applied by legal professionals in Germany? What tasks and challenges do investigators on the ground face? What crimes have been proven, and what does Russian occupation in Ukraine actually mean?
This complex topic will be explored through legal analysis and practical insights. The event begins with a short lecture by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Fastenrath, who will discuss the international legal framework for prosecuting war crimes and the legal options for investigation available in Germany. Subsequently, Senior Public Prosecutor Klaus Hoffmann will share his experiences as part of an international team in Ukraine and explain how the Federal Public Prosecutor General (GBA) is pursuing the prosecution of war crimes from Germany. Both speakers will be available for questions from the audience following the moderated discussion.
Further information and registration are available on the website of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung.
The event will be held in German.
