"The Master said, Studying, and from time to time going over what you've learnt - that's enjoyable, isn't it?"

Centre for East Asian Studies
General Information
The Centre for East Asian Studies (OAZ) was established at Technische Universität Dresden in 1998 as a Centre for Area Studies. Focussing on Greater China – covering the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and Singapore – as well as Japan, the Centre offers various "East Asian Area Studies" programmes covering courses on Chinese and Japanese culture, society, politics, history and economy as well as language classes.
The Centre for East Asian Studies provides a wide range of courses on East Asia:
- Area Studies Program on East Asia
- Area Studies Program on Japan
- Area Studies Program on Greater China - Individual Regional Modules:
- East Asia / Japan
- East Asia / Greater China - Language Modules Chinese / Japanese
- A1 - A2+ / UNIcert® Basis
- B1 - B1+ / UNIcert® I
It is a freely selectable program and it can be used as a qualification according to the respective study regulations in all study programs.
The area studies aim at deepening the students’ understanding of a non-European region and at strengthening their awareness for Asian cultural, social, political and economic perspectives. In addition to the major subject, the range of courses offers a knowledge-based approach to two non-European areas that are very significant for international science and research. Furthermore, the participants also acquire competences that sensitize them to reflect on perceptions of self and others, and thus contribute to more successful intercultural interactions.
On September 9, 2020, the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) published "Guiding Questions on University Coorperation with the People's Republic of China". You can find the document here.
