About the Center
The Centrum Frankreich | Frankophonie (CFF), founded at the end of 2017 and confirmed by the University Executive Board as a scientific institution of the TUD since October 2024, is broadly interdisciplinary and has members from numerous faculties, in addition to those from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, also from the Faculties of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Medicine and Mechanical Engineering.
The CFF sees itself as a
¨ A place for German-Francophone scientific and cultural exchange
¨ Contact point for international cooperation
¨ imparting expertise on francophone cultural areas.
It cooperates with the DRESDEN-concept partners, supports the "Culture and Societal Change" Research Priority Area and contributes to the visibility of TU Dresden's international relations.
Structured promotion of early-career researchers takes place within the framework of the Franco-German Doctoral College "Construire les différences" / Collège doctoral franco-allemand "Construire les différences", funded by the Franco-German University in Saarbrücken.
The CFF is a founding member of the network of university France and Francophonie centers in Germany, an association of currently twelve academic centers that are committed to intensifying Franco-German university cooperation.
It also acts as an organizer and venue in the Literaturnetz Dresden.

Photography workshop with Baudoin Mouanda from Brazzaville
The Congolese photographer Baudouin Mouanda from Brazzaville is showing pictures in his exhibition "Perspectives de Brazzaville" in the gallery on the 2nd floor of the New Town Hall Dresden until May 15, 2025 to mark the 50th anniversary of the town twinning with Brazzaville.
The exhibition was accompanied by a photography workshop.
A cooperation between the Institute français Dresden, the City of Dresden and the CFF.

Cinéma français
Student jury surprise film
Students from TU Dresden and Leipzig University interested in Cinéma français have come together in a jury to select a film from a series of French or Francophone films (OMU) from the Institute français Film Fund (IF Cinéma).
The films have never been shown in German cinemas before. The selected surprise film will then be shown on May 13, 2025 on the occasion of the 26th French Film Days Dresden at the Programmkino Ost, with an introduction by the students.

Lecture
Dr. Ulrich Wegner (Berlin): The beginnings of jazz in the USA
Since the arrival of American soldiers in France in 1917, "jazz" has dominated the beat of bars and pubs from the Casino de Paris to the Bœuf sur le toit and the Folies-Bergère. But where does this jazz come from, how American, how African is it? - The lecture by ethnomusicologist Uli Wegner will shed light on these questions.

Québec CÉGEP students as guests
Students from the Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe, Montréal, are guests in Bettina Lindorfer's seminar "Montreal as a place of longing". Based on the novel Là où je me terre by Canadian author Caroline Dawson, they will address the feeling of alienation of young immigrants in Quebec culture.

Exchange Strasbourg - Dresden
Strasbourg students and lecturers as guests in Dresden
A delegation of students and lecturers from the Institute of German Studies at the University of Strasbourg is visiting the twin city of Dresden as part of an excursion. This follows on from the visit of the Dresden Romance Studies delegation to Strasbourg in October 2024. Topic of this excursion: "From the Rhine to the Elbe: Dresden as a central place of German history".
The program includes professional exchange, participation in teaching, visits to cultural events and institutions in Dresden. Supervision: PD Dr. Bettina Lindorfer

Ralph Ludwig: Irrschweifen and laughter. L'errance et le rire
Ralph Ludwig presents his anthology Irrschweifen und Lachen (Litradukt, Trier 2024, translated from French; original: L'errance et le rire, Gallimard 2022). The volume brings together fictional and non-fictional texts by 15 renowned authors from the Francophone Caribbean and thus provides an insight into current trends in Antillean literature.
Ralph Ludwig, Professor of Romance Studies at the University of Halle until 2023, is one of the best experts on Caribbean culture and literature in the German-speaking world.

Dr. BirgitDalbajewa (SKD): Wild or matter-of-fact, bourgeois or proletarian. Painting of the Weimar Republic in the Albertinum Collection
As part of the lecture "Les années folles: France in the twenties" by Bettina Lindorfer, Birgit Dalbajewa will show in her "Lecture in front of originals" that for the German art scene the view to Paris is essential until 1914, while after 1918 a radical foreignness becomes apparent.

Dr. Simeng Wang (CNRS/EHESS Paris): Anti-Asian Racism among Chinese in France amid the Covid-19 Pandemic: Experiences, Narratives, and Reactions
The Paris-based sociologist and editor of the volume Chinese in France amid the Covid-19 Pandemic(Brill 2023) will speak about the situation of the Chinese diaspora during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Simeng Wang is an expert in the field of migration research with a focus on East and Southeast Asia and coordinates the research network Migrations asiatiques en France. A cooperation between the Chair of French Studies/CFF and the Chair of Comparative Cultural Studies and Qualitative Research (Sociology) at TUD.

Unfortunately, the lecture planned for June 18 has to be canceled due to illness. It may be held as an online event at a later date.

PD Dr. Andrea Gremels (Viadrina): 'Dissident' Surrealism in Paris between languages and cultures: From the manifesto Un cadavre and the competition of cultural magazines
The lecture will shed light on a hitherto less known side of surrealism: The exchange relationships between surrealist artists and writers in Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean will be presented from a cross-media, cross-cultural and cross-regional perspective.

The multi-award-winning writer Audrée Wilhelmy presents her second novel published in German, Bluthaut ( original: Peau-de-Sang, Éditions Le Tripode), for which she received the prestigious Prix Ringuet in 2024.
