Information on the course "Regional Studies Latin America"
"Regional Studies Latin America" (ReLa) is an additional and free course offered by the Institute of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies, which can be taken by students from all faculties of TUD Dresden University of Technology.
It is designed to give students access to non-European cultures and prepare them for an international job market in which region-specific additional qualifications are becoming increasingly important. Students learn about the special economic and historical situation of Latin America independently of their actual studies and are trained to react sensitively to cultural differences and to be able to classify them on the basis of their knowledge.
The study program includes a language course module that provides knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese. In the Hispano-American specialization, C1 level Spanish is achieved, in the Brazilian specialization at least B2 level Portuguese. In the regional course module, topics from the areas of Latin American society, culture, politics, economics and history are studied in greater depth. The detailed module descriptions can be found here. At the end of the course, there is a half-hour oral final examination, which evaluates the students' skills in terms of both language and content. After having passed the final examination, the candidate receives a certificate from the Technical University of Dresden.

Enrollment in the course of study is done by e-mail. A specialization (Hispanic America, Brazil) is chosen at the same time. However, it is still possible to change this later.
