Students from Dresden
The Buddy Programme of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences is for students who have at least completed their first year of studies successfully. We aim to integrate international students into the academic and everyday life in Dresden and improve the cultural exchange outside of the ERASMUS context.

In the background there is a castle and people are walking towards it.
As a Buddy, you will help at least one international student for one term. You will be their contact person and friend, helping them with private as well as academic and bureaucratic organisation of their stay in Dresden. In addition, varied meetings with all buddies are organised regularly during the semester. Furthermore, you will be able to set an example, show an open mind and you will have the unique chance to show someone 'your' Dresden.
Preparation
- Registration via the registration form (for the winter semester by August, for the summer semester by February), then enrolment in the OPAL course
- Participation in one of the online preparatory meetings during the term break (dates will be announced via OPAL and mail).
- First contact with your Buddy before their planned arrival via mail
Examples for tasks
-
Assistance on arrival in Dresden, for example in the form of tips on finding accommodation, exploring the campus together or support with - if necessary - registering in Dresden, opening a bank account or registering with an insurance company
-
Assistance with drawing up a timetable and with the academic standards of the respective subject areas
-
Integrative support also outside the ERASMUS environment, e.g. through joint SLUB sessions or leisure activities
Your gain
- By participating in the program, you can expand your inter- and intracultural competences, while learning more about other cultures
- It is perfect for making new contacts with open-minded people, both Dresden and international students
- The intensive exchange with international students serves as preparation for your own stay abroad
- If you attend the buddy meetings regularly and submit a reflection sheet at the end of the semester, you can have your participation (ungraded) recognised in the AQua- or Ergänzungsbereich.
