Prof. Juergen Czarske becomes visiting professor at Utsunomiya University in Japan
He will be based in the Greater Tokyo Area, where he will teach and conduct research at Utsunomiya University. Research is currently underway at Utsunomiya University’s“Center for Optical Research and Education”(CORE) in the fields of biosensing, health monitoring, and diagnostic medicine.

His host is Prof. Yuki Otani, Director of the CORE Center, which was established in collaboration with Canon. Prof. Otani is also President of the Optical Society of Japan.

The center enjoys an excellent global reputation in the fields of systems research, digital holography, optical metrology, medical procedures, quantum technologies, metasurfaces, the metaverse, augmented reality, laser material processing, and other related areas. The world’s largest spatial light modulator adorns the building’s entrance facade.

Prof. Czarske looks forward to using this latest visiting professorship to deepen international collaborations and intensify international student exchanges. A student from Dresden has already conducted research at CORE—an opportunity made possible by Prof. Czarske. A former doctoral student of Prof. Czarske, who worked on DFG research projects in Dresden as part of collaborations with Keio University, is now a professor in Japan (Tokyo, Shibaura Institute of Technology, Toyosu Campus).
