Abstract
Micro
uidic systems and lab-on-chip technologies are becoming increasingly
important especially in biomedical laboratory technology, for example in pathogen rapid
tests or the discovery of pharmaceutical ingredients. In addition, the applications of
micro
uidic system in chemical process engineering are an emerging as a new trend.
However, a maximum throughput in a micro
uidic system is highly demanded in
chemical engineering. The result is that a uniform lling and rapid mixing must be
guaranteed and a model is needed to describe the mixing behavior and reaction behavior.
For this purpose the nite element method based on CFD simulation is used. It focuses on
the mixing behavior through the dierence in pressure or mass
ow in dierent micro
uidic
mixing structures. The following gure 0.2 shows the mixing process in a classic rectangular
channel. The goal is simplied visualisation and analysis of the results to point out the
advantages and disadvantages of dierent micromixers.
