Living and Studying in Dresden
Please find detailed information on accommodation possibilities on the info sheet of the TU Dresden International Office under "To be taken care of BEFORE you leave your home country".
The Studentenwerk Dresden provides a wide range of food facilities at reasonable prices for all students.
- Locations: Please get further information on the Studentenwerk's website. You will probably most go to Neue Mensa (Bergstraße) or Mensa Siedepunkt (Zellescher Weg, across the street to the library). If you want to get a hot lunch you need to get there some time between 10.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m.
- Emeal: This is a card for cashless payments. You can get it at the cash desk at the cafeteria. Therefore you need to bring your passport (ID card), student ID card, an Emeal certificate from the semester print-out sheet, and 5 EUR deposit.
- Menu: You can check the menu in the free campus paper CAZ or online.
A great place to study, find some books and papers in English (and other langugages) for your studies and leisure. The central library is located on Zellescher Weg 18.
- You'll need to register to get your library card. Follow the instruction on thelibrary's websites.
TU Dresden has a wide range of reasonably priced sport activities to choose from at your leisure time. The places are limited so make sure you register in time. For more information visit the website of the university sports centre.
The general emergency number is 110 or 112.
Before consulting a doctor it is useful to arrange an appointment. Otherwise you may have to wait in line for a while. Always bring your chip card (public health insurance) or proof of insurance coverage (private health insurance) for consultation or hospital care. In the event of medical problems arising in the evenings or on the weekend, you can call the central information hotline +49 (0)351-19292 which directs you to the nearest doctor on call in the Dresden area. If you cannot go to the doctor yourself, a house call (home visit) may be arranged.

Online-Platforms
Students in the degree programs:
- Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics and Renewable Energy Systems (from enrollment year 2021)
- Information Systems Engineering (Examination Regulations 2020)
- Biomedical Engineering
- Nanoelectronic Systems
can currently use selma to:
- View and download personal documents, e.g. certificate of enrollment, course of studies overview
- Submit applications
- Change personal information
- Manage examinations
HISQIS is the online portal for examination management for students enrolled in Electrical Engineering, Information Systems Engineering, Mechatronics and Renewable Energy Systems (Examination Regulations 2010/2011/2013/2014/2018).
Students automatically receive their login credentials for this area upon enrollment. HISQIS features the following functions:
- Exam registration
- Regular withdrawal from registered examinations
- Overview of the state of examined assessments
- Overview of grades, including registered examinations
- Change of address and telephone number
- Printing of certificates of study
OPAL is the central learning platform of universities in Saxony.
gOPAL is an online support service for students in STEM and teacher training degree programs. It continually provides new students with relevant information during the commencement of their studies, for instance about the course of their studies, subject content and study strategies.
