As markets become increasingly flexible, the demands on process plants are also growing. The modularization of process plants by means of Module Type Package (MTP) is one possible solution to meet the demand for highly flexible plants.
However, the question arises as to how this development will continue with increasing intelligence in equipment and components. As equipment becomes more intelligent, the effort required to automate a plant shifts to networking capabilities.
So will there still be a need for classic control cabinets in the future, or will each component bring its own controller? How can individual components be networked in such a way that the entirety can still operate efficiently with one another? Which technologies from related fields can be profitably integrated into automation technology for safety and sustainability?
These and other questions are to be investigated in detail for application in the BioPharma industry sector in an industrial project with Sartorius Stedim Systems GmbH.
