Statusvortrag im Promotionsverfahren von Herrn Weizhou Luo
Abstract:
Mixed Reality (MR) will likely reshape future offices by enabling boundless display space integrated seamlessly with real-world contexts. Everyday office tasks in workspaces involving working with large amounts of content—such as textual documents, slides, and spreadsheets—and co-located collaborative activities like brainstorming and sensemaking can benefit from MR. However, designing future MR workspaces requires a deeper understanding of spatial strategies for organizing virtual content, especially considering situated environments. In my status talk, I will demonstrate the current state of my research on spatial organization strategies for virtual content in MR workspaces. To this end, I will present related work and state-of-the-art applications to outline open challenges. Thus far, I have conducted user studies to explore how users arrange and place documents in MR workspaces, considering physical environments and collaborative settings. Building on these findings, I elicited interaction techniques for managing document collections, proposed design guidelines, and illustrated potential use cases for future MR workspace systems. Moreover, to analyze user behaviour within such workspaces, I introduced a mixed-reality evaluation approach. Finally, I will reflect on the remaining open questions and propose next steps for shaping future mixed reality workspaces.
