Abstract:
Context-aware systems are crucial in modern cyber physical systems, dynamically adapting their behavior based on changing conditions. Many of these systems involve complex contextual relationships. Modelica is a leading equation-based language for modeling and simulating physical systems. However, as contextual relationships grow more complex, traditional Modelica constructs, such as conditional statements and state machines, become insufficient and difficult to maintain.
This work introduces a context-oriented modeling and simulation paradigm and framework for Modelica by integrating Context Petri Nets (CoPN) - a formalism for managing contextual dependencies - with Functional Mock-up Interface (FMI)-based Variable Structure Systems (VSS). By combining CoPN with VSS, the approach enables advanced variability management, making it possible to model complex, context-aware cyber-physical systems. This approach also generalizes beyond Modelica, yielding a tool-agnostic paradigm compatible with any FMI-capable environment.
