Projects
ScaDS – Competence Center for Scalable Data Services and Solutions Dresden/Leipzig
Project period: since 2014
http://www.scads.de
The “Competence Center for Scalable Data Services and Solutions Dresden/Leipzig” (ScaDS Dresden/Leipzig) combines the competences of TU Dresden and Univ. Leipzig for an holistic approach to the big data challenges in different fields of scientific and economic applications.
VICCI – Visual and Interactive Cyber-Physical Systems Control and Integration
Project period: 2012 – 2014
http://www.vicci.eu
The ESF-funded junior research group VICCI deals with the development, control and integration of cyber physical systems (CPS) at the Faculty of Computer Science of the Dresden University of Technology. The scope includes smart home environments and supporting people in the ambient assisted living.
DFG Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 716 – Dynamic simulation of systems with large particle numbers
Project period: since 2007, personal involvement until 2012
http://www.sfb716.uni-stuttgart.de/
Focus of the collaborative research center (SFB 716) is the development of dynamic simulation methods for systems with large particle numbers for use in industrial research and further development in future. Large datasets of particle data like the ones generated in SFB 716 still pose a big challenge for visual analyzing methods. Subproject D.3 faces the challenge of visualizing large, time-dependent particle datasets. To this end, an extensible and adoptable visualization framework has been developed during the first funding period: MegaMol.
MegaMol™
Project period: since 2006
http://megamol.org
MegaMol is a visualization middleware for rendering of point-based molecular data sets. This software was developed in the SFB 716 at the University of Stuttgart. It is the foundation of the work of multiple Ph.D. students for development of high-performance visualization prototypes and for development of visualization applications.

Doi: 10.1109/TVCG.2014.2350479
MegaMol is continuously and actively developed and in use at multiple locations.
Additional project related to MegaMol: Vislib, PerformancePeon and MolCloud.
