History
The Chair of Computer Graphics and Visualization was lead by Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Dieter Orlamünder until his retirement in 2000. Hereafter Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Oliver Deussen took over the leadership. After the offer to a professorship at the University of Konstanz in 2003 he left the Chair and Prof. Dr. Markus Wacker became a substitute head of the CGV Lab until his change to the University of Applied Sciences HTW Dresden. Since November 2005 Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Stefan Gumhold has been leading the Chair.
Since then we have initiated many exciting research projects funded by various promoters (ESF, DFG, AiF ZIM, IGF etc.) as well as external cooperations with institutions from other universities or independent research institutions, e.g. the Visualisation Research Centre at the University of Stuttgart (VISUS), the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences of the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden Rossendorf or the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV (further cooperation partners here).
The Chair of Computer Graphics and Visualization currently offers 12 courses spread throughout the winter and summer semester. These include lectures, seminars and practical training. The courses "Einführung in die Computergraphik" (Introduction to Computer Graphics) and "Komplexpraktikum Medieninformatik" (Practical Course Media Computer Science) are an integral part of the bachelor's programme Media Computer Science at the Faculty of Computer Science at the TU Dresden.
