Komplexpraktikum Computergraphik und Visualisierung (WS 2018/19)
Advisor
Look Inside
Augmented Reality (AR) extends real world with computer-generated graphics. In this Komplexpraktikum, we want to explore how this augmentation can be used to visual-ize content in the interior of real world objects. One important medical application is the visualization of medical imaging data (CT, MRI, etc) directly on the patient. Engineering applications include visualization of the interior of a machinery to support repair tasks. As a recreational application one could show what is inside a kinder surprise egg or inside a box with Schrödinger‘s cat.
Modules
You can use the Komplexpraktikum also in INF-VERT7 with a corresponding notice to Prof. Gumhold.
Task
- Develop two applications (preferably medical & engineering) with virtual content placed inside of a real object.
- Perform 3D scanning of the real object and align the 3D scan with the virtual interior content.
- Register 3D scan and real object with hololens using markers or tracking system (e.g. VIVE controllers or OptiTrack).
- Develop diminishing reality based application to hide the real object where the virtual content has to blend in.
- Develop cutaway rendering techniques in order to provide a visual connection between real object and virtual content.
- Optional: Develop interaction methods for the virtual content such as selection of the imaging modality or adjustment of a cutting plane.
Organisation
Register for the Opal-course until noon of October 10, 2018. The first
appointment will take place in the week of 15 to 19 October 2018. The
concrete date will be agreed with all participants.
