Topic "LiveEarth VR" (working title)

There are several geostationary satellites in earth orbit which are used among other things for weather forecasting. Some of these satellites are owned by governmental organizations and the recorded data are made available to the public. This concerns, among other things, high-resolution images of the earth.
Furthermore there are many free APIs that provide live data. (For example: aircraft data, shipping data, elevation map data, weather data, satellite positions)
In the scope of this project a VR application is to be created, in which a globe with a dynamic texture can be investigated. In this application live data from different APIs shall be displayed.

Challenges

• Collecting "live" images from different sources
• Combining images to a homogenous texture
• Exploration and interaction methods for VR application have to be created (filtering, moving, rotating, time...)
• reasonable visualization of the data

Requirements

• Advanced knowledge in computer graphics and data visualization
• Experience developing:
  • ...VR applications
  • ...with the cgv framework
