A Comparative Analysis of HPC Benchmark Suites

Choosing the right benchmark for a High Performance Computing system is a challenging problem. The vast amount of existing benchmark suites aim to measure different aspects of a system and cannot use every system optimally. For choosing the right benchmark suite, this work provides a guideline based on the characterization and categorization of popular benchmark suites. This categorization is realized by comparing the key characteristics of individual benchmark suites. Aspects that cannot be compared easily are described per benchmark suite. The categorization yields an easy method for the user to compare benchmark suites and choose the right one for the specific use case.
