Portrait of Professor Lasagni
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andrés Fabián Lasagni has held the Chair of Laser-based Manufacturing since July 1, 2012. Since September 2008, he has also headed the Surface Functionalization Group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology (IWS) in Dresden. He was awarded the 2012 Masing Memorial Prize by the German Society for Materials Science. Andrés Fabián Lasagni was born on 27.08.1977 in Cinco Saltos/Argentina.
Without laser systems ... there would be no internet, smartphones, laser surgery and no James Bond or Star Wars films!
Being a professor ... means training future engineers, but above all people.
Students ... are our future professionals who face different problems than we do. They need to be prepared to develop new possibilities and ways to use our resources more efficiently, for example. Lasers will certainly play an important role in this development.
In the future ... laser structuring technologies will continue to develop to enable the production of complex micro- and nano-structures on large surfaces. These surfaces will draw inspiration from nature, which has found a multitude of impressive solutions to problems such as anti-reflective surfaces, photonic crystals or antibacterial surfaces. Only through the synergy between very different disciplines, such as chemistry, biology and physics, will we have the chance to further improve our world.
If I could study again ... I would study music and develop an instrument that you can play extremely quickly. That is, instead of strings, the instrument would be guided by a coherent light source such as laser light!
Excellence ... means quality of work, competence and creativity in research, but above all a commitment to excellence in teaching!
