Portrait of Professor Wiessner
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sven Wießner was appointed to the newly created Chair of Elastomeric Materials on February 1, 2020. The Chair was established jointly with the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden e.V., where he heads the Elastomers research department. He was born in 1976 in Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz again).
Without elastomer materials ... driving comfort - whether on two or four wheels - would fall by the wayside, sealing problems would be the order of the day and modern medical technology would also be difficult to imagine without elastomer materials. In many cases, functional elements made of elastomers have to deliver top performance behind the scenes!
Being a professor... offers the opportunity to convey one's own fascination for the field of research and at the same time receive new food for thought.
Students ... should always be eager to learn and study in a goal-oriented way, but despite their focus, they should always think outside the box.
In the future ... elastomers will continue to occupy their rightful position as a group of materials in their own right, and increasingly so in "smart" applications, such as elastic actuators or integrated sensors.
If I could study again ... I would go back to engineering, but I would give more space to aspects of Business Administration and Economics.
The Excellence ... award is both an incentive and an obligation to make use of the resulting opportunities and scope for action at TU Dresden.
