Data-driven exploration and design of materials: International Summer School on Data-Based Materials Development

This week, from August 21 to 24, an International Summer School of the Materials 4.0 series is organized by TU Dresden under the motto Data-driven exploration and design of materials. During this event, more than 30 students and young scientists from 14 countries are meeting with internationally recognized experts to discuss recent developments and promising applications of data-driven approaches to the scale-crossing exploration and design of novel materials. The event is organized by the Dresden Center for Computational Materials Science (DCMS), the Dresden Center for Intelligent Materials (DCIM) and the Research Training Group D³ (GRK 2868) Data-Driven Design of Resilient Metamaterials. For the latter, the school represents the kick-off event before the first group of graduates starts its research activities in October 2023.

During the four days of the School, different approaches to this interdisciplinary research field will be shown. To this end, basic principles from disciplines as diverse as numerical mechanics, data and computer science, materials science, mechanical engineering, mathematics and physics will be presented and deepened in practical examples. Internationally renowned keynote speakers from MIT, Duke University, Columbia University, ETH Zurich, the University of Pavia, Swansea University and Leibniz Universität Hannover have been recruited for the lectures and will be involved in the Research Training Group as external experts and mentors in the future. Presentations by researchers from Dresden will provide an insight into the wide-ranging fields of work of the new Research Training Group and into the work planned within it.

This summer school is funded by the School of Engineering Sciences of TU Dresden within its internationalization strategy as well as by the German Research Foundation (DFG) through the Graduiertenkolleg D³ (GRK 2868).
