"Heimspiel Wissenschaft" with Niels Modler invites you to talk about lightweight construction and its importance for our everyday lives
On August 31 at 7 p.m., Prof. Dr.-Ing. Niels Modler will speak at the Limbach-Kändler parish about his research as a professor at the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology at TU Dresden. Admission is free, food and drinks will be provided.
From lightweight prostheses to energy-saving cars - lightweight construction leads to greater comfort, efficiency and sustainability. The technology has numerous applications in everyday life, most of which we are not even aware of. In his lecture, Niels Modler will provide exciting insights into his research into lightweight construction and explain how we can use it to develop technologies that are both capable and environmentally friendly. All interested parties are invited to attend, no prior knowledge is required.
Niels Modler lives in Kändler (Limbach-Oberfrohna) and grew up in Oelsa (Rabenau) in the south of Dresden. After graduating from high school, his father's mathematician genes led him to study electrical engineering and precision engineering at TU Dresden in 1988.
After working in the medical technology industry for six years, he returned to TU Dresden in 1999 and joined the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology. Niels Modler has been Chair of Function-integrative Lightweight Engineering here since 2013. He is also coordinating the establishment of a research center for the circular economy as a contribution to structural change in Lusatia in Saxony.
The event is part of the nationwide "Heimspiel Wissenschaft" series, which invites
brings scientists to their home towns. There they talk about what, how and why they do research and what this has to do with all of our lives. They answer questions and discuss with their guests. Everyone who finds the topic exciting is invited - including people who normally have little or nothing to do with scientific research in their everyday lives. Questions and requests from the public about research in general will also be discussed.
Heimspiel Wissenschaft" brings science and research to the pub around the corner,
in the community center, in the clubhouse or on the village square. "Heimspiel Wissenschaft" is a joint project of the German Rectors' Conference, the science communication agency con gressa and the #WisskommLab at Heidelberg University. It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the "Science Years" initiative.
