Prof. Anja Wagemans is the new holder of the Chair of Food Engineering
Prof. Anja Maria Wagemans has been the new holder of the Chair of Food Engineering at the Institute of Natural Materials Technology since March 1, 2024. Her research focuses on the structure-function relationships of biopolymers in food with the aim of replacing animal-based foods with more sustainable plant- or microbial-based products.
Prior to her appointment at TU Dresden, Wagemans was a junior professor at the Technische Universität Berlin, where she held the Chair of Food Biosciences at the Institute of Food Technology and Food Chemistry.
As part of her scientific career, the food scientist, who holds a doctorate, attaches great importance to international exchange and cooperation. In addition, she has already built up an extensive network both in the Berlin food start-up scene and with established companies in the food industry.
In 2022, Wagemans received the Young Talent Award - Berlin Science Award, as well as the Young Talent Award in the "Teaching" category in 2020 and the award for excellent teaching at the Faculty of Process Sciences at TU Berlin in 2019.
"Being a professor is literally a vocation for me, as I can combine my passion for food engineering with my enthusiasm for supporting and developing young scientists."
Another important topic for the professor is supporting and mentoring her students and doctoral candidates. In addition to scientific development, she is also keen to promote personal development, as scientific and social skills are closely linked. She also pursues this approach in her teaching.
The faculty management is delighted that Prof. Wagemans has taken up her post and wishes her every success!
