TU Dresden and TSMC jointly train young talent for the semiconductor industry - deadline for applications November 6, 2023
TUD students are invited to apply for the new "Semiconductor Talent Incubation Program" in Taiwan, which provides insights into state-of-the-art production and research in the semiconductor industry. The application deadline is November 6, 2023. Starting in February 2024, students will be able to acquire crucial skills for their future professional careers. In the following years, the program will also be made available to students from other Saxon universities.
This is made possible through the cooperation agreement signed on September 19, 2023 by the Saxon Minister of Science Sebastian Gemkow, TUD Rector Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger and the Senior Vice President of the "Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company" (TSMC), Lora Ho, which intensifies the trilateral cooperation through the new exchange program. This program is specially geared towards training German STEM students for careers in the semiconductor industry. The agreement provides for up to 100 gifted and promising students per year to participate in a six-month exchange program in Taiwan to expand talent development, global partnerships and cultural exchange with top universities in Taiwan.
The basic idea is to combine a study program in the semiconductor field with practical training at TSMC, the world's leading company in the semiconductor sector. The first student participants will study at National Taiwan University (Taipei) from March to June 2024. Following their stint at National Taiwan University, the TUD students will complete two months of practical training at the Newcomer Training Center & Fab at TSMC (Taichung) from July to August.
Both beforehand in Dresden and later in Taiwan, students will have the opportunity to participate in a Chinese language course. In addition, there is an intercultural training seminar on Taiwan offered by TUD. On site, the students will be supervised by the newly established scientific liaison office of the Free State of Saxony in Taiwan, headed by Dr. Josef Goldberger, TU Dresden. The selected candidates will receive, in addition to the tuition and program fees, a subsidy for living expenses as well as for the trip itself. Accommodation is provided, but must be paid for by the students themselves.
Eligible for this exchange program are students who are enrolled in a Master's program or are in their third year of a Bachelor's program at TU Dresden or one of the participating universities and are pursuing a degree in a STEM subject. Students who have completed a Diplom program and have earned at least half of the course credits are also eligible to apply.
